Description

DIY EPROM ERASER KIT Includes the UV light describe below and a EPROM holding tray that was made specifically for the Lamp holder.  The two came together as parts for a Digelec PROM programmer with built in EPROM eraser.  The tray has a piece of anti-static foam in the bottom to hold and protect your sensitive devices. If the lamp holder is set on a flat surface, the tray slides into and under the UV lamp.  They come together and mate perfectly. UV Germicidal Lamp In Lamp Holder 5 1/4 inch 4 Watt G4T5 GL-4 *Erases EPROMS*  *Shows Invisible Ink*  *Minerals That Glow Under UV Light* *Germ Killer Applications*Only one lamp is in this holder. That is a reflection at the W.The above item is what you are bidding on......Lamp & Holder plus the tray belowSome of the trays may be used, but in excellent condition. All of the foam is old and "soft".  I will replace it with new antistatic foamStock Picture.  Example of the bulb & sleeveWe DO NOT have the bulb separate like shown in this picture This is the bulb that is in the lamp holder. You are NOT getting a separate bulb. This picture is just to let you know which bulb is included in the holder. This is a NEW 4 watt G4T5 GL-4 Ultra violet germicidal lamp in a silver plastic lamp holder.Total length of the holder is 8 3/8 inches. This is new "old" stock.  This lamp and holder were used in an EPROM eraser in Digelec Prom programmers.   This is not a pull or used item. The lamp holder is wired to a 4 pin connector ready to connect to your lamp power source. The lamp is 5 1/4 inches long PLUS the prongs. This lamp has many uses:EPROM eraser.  This is the application they were bought for.  The went into EPROM programmers with built in erasers and stand alone erasers.  Germicidal lamp to kill germs.  I have seen them used in water filters, where the water runs through a clear tube and is exposed to UV light.  I heard at one time they were used in refrigerators and they turned ON when the door was closed.  Invisible Ink lamp viewer.  This lamp will allow you to view invisible ink used for marking and identifying your ebay purchases.Mineral lamp to show UV sensitive rocks.  This is the same lamp that is used in some mineral lamps to view various "glowing" minerals. CAUTION:  UV light is harmful to your eyes.  NEVER look at the illuminated lamp.  It is damaging and similar to looking at the sun or a welding arc.  REGARDLESS...........read the CAUTION and be sure friends, family, pets and YOU don't damage your vision looking at the bulb. This is the bulb and holder only. You need the lamp power supply to plug it into. It requires a transformer such as used in florescent lamps to use this bulb.  I  have given two options below.  FULL hobbyist build and quick, down and dirty ready made solution.I was looking on the internet and came across this site with plans for the circuit to drive a UV bulb from a 6 volt battery (4 flashlight batteries). I haven't tried it and don't recommend it -- I just found it looking into UV light. REMEMBER the caution above if you build this. It needs a protective case.http://www.aaroncake.net/circuits/blklite.htmThere are  a number of places online that talk about making your own UV EPROM eraser.Another option that is a lot easier is to convert a battery powered mini-florescent lamp.  I have one I got from WalMart that this UV bulb fits into EXACTLY.  I took off the batter cover and then used a screwdriver to push the sides to unsnap the end cap hold down catches.  I did not have to cut or break anything.  I installed the UV lamp in place of the florescent lamp and it worked perfectly. Two things if you go this route.  The mini light is battery powered by 4 AA batteries.  You will need a 6 volt DC power source.  Batteries will not be an effective means to erase EPROMS that take 10 to 30 minutes to fully erase.  You will have to wire it to your light in place of the batteries.  I probably would use an AC adapter that plug into the wall and delivers 6 VDC out.  OR use a higher voltage and a circuit to drop the voltage to 6 VDC.The second thing is MORE IMPORTANT:  Because you are building this device there is no enclosure to seal off stray UV light.  DO NOT look at the lit bulb.  It can cause eye damage.  Be sure you create an enclosure that cuts off all stray UV light. You can also rewire a mini florescent fixture so the contacts go to this ready made enclosure.  If you rewire this, I am guessing there is HIGH voltage on the florescent tube contacts, so keep safety in mind and insulate everything.  I read somewhere the voltage is 350 volts. OUCH! That is shocking.HEY!  This is a DIY (do it yourself) project which you can adapt the best way you know how.  Commercial UV EPROM erasers have a safety interlock switch built into them so you cannot open the unit to remove EPROMS and have the light on at the same time.  The interlock switch turns off the lamp as soon as the tray is pulled out slightly.  You might think of incorporating this safety feature in your unit.  A push button micro switch at the back end of the unit would do the trick.Another item a commercial EPROM eraser has is a timer.  I listed on on ebay that had a 0 to 45 minute mechanical timer built in.  When the time hit zero, it turned off the UV lamp.  A good feature so your project does not get accidently forgotten and the lamp left on for hours. Here is what I was talking about using a mini battery powered florescent lamp from WalMart (or wherever)NO, the mini florescent lamp is NOT include in this auction. It is just to show what you could use for this project. There are two white pieces to the left of the florescent lamp.  They are the battery holder cover and the snap on end cap. This WalMart lamp is made by GE.  Any brand should work, they all do the same thing.  Add us to your FAVORITE SELLER list.Ebay will email you as we add new itemsWe are ready to liquidate 6000 square feet of obsolete computer and test equipment.
